Kevin Mavakala
Director
Born in 1997 in Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of Congo). With a degree in Dramatic Art (Cinema Option) from the Institut National des Arts, he is a writer, director and founder of Pole'Arts a film production and distribution company. His very first film LES DEVOIRS (2018) won two awards at the 4th Kinshasa International Film Festival. In 2018, his very first play, Lipanda, won 3rd prize in the Young Democrat competition organised by the Carter Centre; and his latest film, LA STAR (2021), toured the world after winning the prize for best international short film at the Festival Ecrans Noirs 2021. It was selected for the Short Film Corner at the 75th Cannes Film Festival as part of the Talentueuse Caméra d'Afrique programme.
