Five Swiss documentary films in Montreal

07.11.2005

This fall, Swiss filmmaking is prominent at four film festivals held in the city of Quebec, Canada. At the “Rencontres internationales du documentaire de Montréal”, taking place for the 8th time from November 10-20, 2005, Switzerland has five documentary films in the program, each with their directors in attendance. Fernand Melgar is introducing his film “Exit” (Production: Climage, Lausanne) as part of the “Parcours intimes” series. In the “La démocratie dans tous ses états” series, Nicolas Wadimoff and Béatrice Guelpa are presenting “L’accord” (Production: Akka Film, Zurich), and Kristina Konrad is showing her movie “Unser America” (Production: maximage, Zurich). Antoine Cattin is representing “Life in Peace” along with Pavel Kostomarov as part of the “Térritoires du réel” series. “Melodias” by François Bovy will also be screened as part of this section.
The Festival des Films du Monde had eight new Swiss films in its program in August of this year – among them “Der Henker” (The hangman) by Simon Aebi, “Ryna” by Ruxandra Zenide, and “Fragile” by Laurent Nègre. Further, Peter Entell received the Grand Jury prize at the Festival international du film de Montréal for “Josh’s Trees”, and the Festival du Nouveau Cinéma presented ”Un homme sans histoire” (Man without a story). Rounding out the substantial success of this year’s Swiss filmmaking are these five documentaries at the Rencontres internationales du documentaire de Montréal. A year ago, “Que sera?” by Dieter Fahrer won the audience prize at this festival which otherwise does not include a competition.
