Nominations for the Swiss Film Prize «Quartz 2012»

The Swiss Federal Office of Culture (FOC) announced 33 nominations for the Swiss Film Prize «Quartz 2012» at the “Night of the Nominations” in Solothurn today.

The Swiss Federal Office of Culture (FOC) announced 33 nominations for the Swiss Film Prize «Quartz 2012» at the “Night of the Nominations” in Solothurn today. Both Federal Councillor Alain Berset and Christian Frei, president of the Swiss Film Academy, gave opening addresses. Actor Leonardo Nigro hosted the nomination evening. The awarding of the 15th Swiss Film Prize «Quartz 2012» will be held in KKL Luzern on March 17.

97 films were nominated in nine different categories. The monetary prizes presented to the nominees amount to a total of 390,000 Swiss Francs. The funds for the nominations in the category of Best Film Score, amounting to 15,000 Swiss Francs, are provided by the City of Lucerne.

Selection of nominees
The selection procedure is carried out under the auspices of the Swiss Film Academy. Recommendations for the nominations were made by approximately 240 members and then selected in a final decision by the committee comprised of Academy members and appointed by the Federal Department of Home Affairs. The members of the nomination committee include: Louis Crelier, composer; Beat Glur, journalist; Myriam Flury, film editor; Stéphane Kuthy, cinematographer; Pierre Monnard, director; Chris Niemeyer, director and producer; Nina Scheu, journalist; Xavier Ruiz, director and producer; and Andrea Zogg, actor.

Selection of the winners of the «Quartz 2012»
The winners of the Swiss Film Prize «Quartz 2012» will be selected by the members of the Swiss Film Academy in February 2012. The Swiss Film Academy also awards the Special Prize of the Academy which honours outstanding technical and artistic achievements.

Award ceremony «Quartz 2012»
The award ceremony is a gala event of the Swiss Federal Office of Culture, in collaboration with SRG SSR, the media partner, and SWISS FILMS, the promotion agency. Together with the Swiss Film Academy, SWISS FILMS bears responsibility for organising the Swiss Film Prize as well as coordinating the nomination procedure and jury. The partner for the "Night of the Nominations" is the Solothurn Film Festival.
