At the 43rd Vienna International Film Festival, also known as the “Viennale” (October 14-26, 2005), Switzerland is represented with four films by Swiss directors and three co-productions. The film “Unser America” (Our America) by Kristina Konrad (Production: Maximage, Zurich), an encounter of two former women sandinista fighters in today’s Nicaragua, will premiere at the event. Among the 52 documentaries presented at this year’s festival are also: “Face Addict” by Edo Bertoglio (Production: Amka Films, Savosa), “The Giant Buddhas” by Christian Frei, and “Jo Siffert Live Fast – Die Young” by Men Lareida (Production: Hugo Film, Zurich) – all three shown in Locarno in 2005 – as well as the international co-production “Massaker” by Monika Borgmann, Lokman Slim, and Hermann Theissen (co-production Dschoint Ventschr, Zurich). The 62 feature films shown in the festival program include “Delwende” by S. Pierre Yameogo (co-production Thelma Film, Zurich), and “Spiele leben/You Bet Your Life” by Antonin Svoboda (co-production Triluna Film, Zurich).
The Viennale, Austria’s oldest and largest film festival, does not include a competition and focuses on films with “aesthetic originality and political actuality”. Directed by Hans Hurch, the festival gives special attention to documentary cinema, international filmmaking, and experimental works.
