In the 60s, the engineering industry in Switzerland dreamed of constructing its own nuclear power plant. But in January 1969, parts of the first reactor exploded at the experimental plant in Lucens, located in the canton of Waadt. Although this catastrophe has been forgotten to a great extent, it still ranks as one of the worst nuclear disasters in the world. In Alexander Mazzara's film, Swiss nuclear pioneers recollect on the initial euphoria, the problems associated with constructing a reactor and the night of the disaster. Exclusive pictures never before shown serve to document the catastrophe at the Lucens experimental plant.
