The Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art opens in 1977. On its walls hang works by Picasso, Warhol, Miró, Tanavoli – the crème de la crème of its collection of thousands. Yet, within a year, this collection will cease to be shown. The 1979 Revolution will radically alter the museum’s future. Ever since, the course of the museum has mirrored that of Iran itself; at times closed off to the world, at others tentatively open to dialogue.
