“We wanted a workforce and there came human beings”. Hundreds of thousands came to Switzerland during the economic boom – labourers from Italy at the beginning of the 70's. Today they are approaching retirement and are faced with the question of whether to stay here or return to Italy. Their children who were born and raised in Switzerland are living here. But in Italy, they have realised their dream: their own house. The first generation of labourers – where is their home really? Is it where they came from, but haven't lived for half of their lives? Or where they have lived half of their lives as foreigners? In Switzerland or Italy? Now they are strangers to both places – “Tschinggeli” and “Svizzeri”!
