Born in 1940 in Beckenried, Switzerland. Studied photography at the Schule für Gestaltung, Zurich. Contributed to the EXPO 64. Since 1967 works as independent filmmaker and producer in Zurich. 1992-96 President of the Swiss Filmmakers’ Association. 2007 Swiss Film Award, Best Fiction Film for “Vitus”. 2008-10 President of the Swiss Film Academy. 2019 Honorary Award of the Locarno Film Festival. 2022 Honorary Award of the Swiss Film Award.
