Swiss XR projects, series and films in Geneva

27.10.2025

The Geneva International Film Festival GIFF (October 31-November 9, 2025) and the Geneva Digital Market (November 3-6, 2025) have firmly positioned themselves as Switzerland’s most important festival for innovative storytelling by featuring an extensive series programme and a focus on immersive formats.

Anyone interested in creative work in the sphere of XR will find a diverse selection of Swiss projects at GIFF: EMPATHY CREATURES by Mélodie Musset will compete in the International Immersive Experience at GIFF. The AI-guided VR installation has already been shown at the Venice Film Festival.

The Locus Solus installation, a coproduction between GIFF and the Ensemble Contrechamps, brings three immersive musical works to life as an enhanced listening experience: LOCUS SOLUS by Raphaël Raccuia and Nicolas Carrel; RÊVERIE - TRANS-INSTRUMENTALISM by Sachie Kobayashi; and VERTIGES by André Décosterd and Arnaud Parel.

Celebrating their world premieres of VR games in the Pulsation section are COLOUR TO LIFE by Peter Ha and Antonin Ricou, created at HEAD – Geneva, and the olfactory VR experience SPIRA MEMORIAE by Alexine Sierro from ECAL.

Swiss premieres at their finest

HALLO BETTY (SALUT BETTY) by Pierre Monnard will celebrate its Romandy premiere in the Highlights section of the GIFF film programme. The feature film recounts the biography of advertising copywriter Emmi Creola, who had to fight for her place in the male-dominated world of the 1950s and invented the fictional character Betty Bossi, who became THE Swiss culinary icon.

Milagros Mumenthaler’s LAS CORRIENTES will celebrate its Swiss premiere in the International Feature Competition. The Swiss-Argentinian coproduction premiered at the renowned TIFF in Canada and has already garnered a formidable festival career.

Also celebrating its Swiss premiere is Thomas Imbach’s film THE EXPOSURE (LA MISE À NU) starring Deleila Piasko in the leading role, with a screening in the Pulsation section.

Award-worthy series from Switzerland

The GIFF showcases current international series production in an extensive programme, including the world premieres of the documentary series EN ROUTE POUR BROADWAY by Pascaline Sordet and Daniel Wyss, as well as the art-heist thriller LA LINEA DELLA PALMA by Thomas Ritter, Maria Roselli and Mattia Lento and the international premiere of the thriller series INTRAÇABLES by Ami Cohen and Raphaël Meyer.

Nine Swiss series are in the running for the Swiss Series Storytelling Award, which is presented to the best series script by an independent jury. The award ceremony will take place prior to the world premiere of LA LINEA DELLA PALMA on November 6.

The nominees are EN HAUTE MER, FALLEN, INTRAÇABLES, MALONEY, SPORT CRIME (season 2), THE DEAL, TSCHUGGER (season 4), UNSERE KLEINE BOTSCHAFT and WINTER PALACE.

New XR works and networking

The Geneva Digital Market is the only Swiss event dedicated to audiovisual innovation. Roughly 800 international experts gather to exchange ideas on topics relevant to the creative industry and the audiovisual sector.

In the Swiss Interactive Sessions, international curators and programme designers can discover 10 current interactive projects from Switzerland that reflect the domestic creative scene and are either still in production or have just been completed.

In the XR Coproduction Sessions, directors pitch XR projects and present them to potential European coproducers. Two of the 15 selected works are from Switzerland: the VR animation FAMILY CRASH by Patrick Muroni and the immersive, interactive 3D animation HIDE & SEEK! by Fabienne Giezendanner.

The Geneva Digital Market closes with a get-together that enables Swiss professionals to network with international industry players and is hosted by SWISS FILMS in collaboration with GIFF and Cinéforom.

The SWISS IMMERSION database lists the most important Swiss XR projects of recent years and can be found on the SWISS FILMS website.
