Ursula Biemann is an artist, author, and film essayist based in Zurich, Switzerland. Her research-driven practice combines artistic inquiry with fieldwork in remote and geopolitically complex regions, ranging from Greenland to the Amazon. Across films, books, and video installations, she engages with Indigenous and alternative knowledge systems, examining ecological, cosmological, and political dimensions of the natural world.
Her works have been exhibited internationally at museums, film festivals, and major art biennials. She studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York. She received the Prix Meret Oppenheim in 2009 and the Art Award of the City of Zurich in 2022.
